NGC 7009, also known as the Saturn Nebula or Caldwell 55, is a striking planetary nebula located in the constellation Aquarius. Discovered by British astronomer William Herschel on September 7, 1782, this nebula is renowned for its distinctive greenish-yellow hue when observed through small amateur telescopes.
The Saturn Nebula is situated approximately 2,000 to 4,000 light-years away from Earth, is about 0.5 light years across, and is one of the brightest planetary nebulae in the sky, with an apparent magnitude of 8.0. In this image taken with the Tele Vue Powermate 2.5x, the magnification is approximately 210x. The nebula appears to have a complex structure with various halos, shells, and small-scale filaments and knots visible. The central white dwarf star is magnitude 11.5. Overall the nebula is listed as 41 x 35 arc seconds in size.
