cluster in Cygnus

10.1'' reflector  64
x

A very bright and very loose open cluster which barely fit into the field of view at 64x (1 degree 17 minutes across). Consists of about 25 fairly bright member stars forming a rough wedge-shaped equilateral triangle with the base on the south end and top point in the middle of the field of view, about 45' across. Within the triangle is a long letter 'Y' laying on its side, basically at the core of the cluster. Just to the south (right) of the Y is a conspicuous double star each of roughly equal magnitude. Spectacular field of view at low power, field is full of stars!

7th to 10 magnitude stars, cluster lies about 950 light years away and is about 7.5 light years across.

Exposure = 1.4 sec, Gain = 17/250, Live Stacked frames = 1

The field in this image is rotated almost 90 degrees clockwise from the sketch above. Stars appearing range from 8th magnitude to 12th magnitude, roughly as it would appear in the eyepiece.

Exposure = 1.4 sec, Gain = 80/250, Live Stacked frames = 32

This longer exposure image captured the same field of view as what appears in the image to the left, except stars appearing now go down as far as 16th magnitude.
