10.1'' reflector 115 x Pale bluish-green colour, very large, very loose core. A bright knot appears in the North side (bottom-left), with a smaller knot on the South side; this roughly corresponds to a central "bar" described in Burnham's Celestial Handbook. North at 7 o'clock, East at 4 o'clock |

10.1'' reflector Mallincam DS432cTEC Exposures = 2.5 sec, Gain = 30/250, Live Stacked frames = 20 This image is in the same orientation as the previous sketch, providing a slightly wider field of view. The stars of M4 have a reddish-tinge even with saturation reduced on the Mallincam; according to Burnham's, M4 is surrounded in a dark nebulousity that reddens the star colours. The central bar (10-12 stars) running vertically through the core that was previously mentioned is very obvious in this photo. M4 is one of the closest globulars to us, about 7200 light years away.
