M89 is a tight, highly spherical bright elliptical galaxy, listed at 50 million light-years away. About 5 minutes of arc across, located about 40 arc minutes SSW of M90.

Accompanying M89 in this image at top is IC 3540, a lenticular galaxy at 14th magnitude. Also is IC 3574, a 15th magnitude elliptical galaxy.

North at 1 o'clock, East at 10 o'clock.
