10.1'' reflector Mallincam DS432cTEC with Nebular filter Live-stacked frames = 20-20-20-40 (100 total), Exposures = 7.5-10-15-20 sec, Gain = 50/250 M90 is a 9th magnitude intermediate spiral galaxy about 60 million light years away, part of the Virgo Supercluster. The spiral arms swirl tightly around the core in two distinct levels of brightness, brighter near the center and dimmer further away. Further from the core are fainter extensions of the arms that appear slightly warped from the main disk, with a little more nebulosity appearing on the northern end. The brighter part of the galaxy appears to be about 5' by 2.5' in size with the fainter extensions going beyond that. About 5' north are two brighter stars, between which lies dim IC 3583, a 13th magnitude irregular galaxy which is a satellite to M90. North at 12 o'clock, East at 9 o'clock. |
