10.1'' reflector 43 x (with Deep-Sky filter) M65 is to the left, M66 at top, NGC 3628 to the lower right. M66 is more circular in shape than M65, and overall is slightly brighter. NGC 3628 (an edge-on spiral) requires a little more averted vision than M65/66 to see it; it's definitely longer than either of the Messier objects. About 20' separate M65 and M66. All three galaxies appear to be about 8' in length. This triple group is part of the Leo Galaxy Group, which includes the M105 and NGC 3384 pair, M95, and M96. |

10.1'' reflector Mallincam DS432cTEC with Nebular filter Exposure = 15 sec, Gain = 80/250, Live Stacked frames = 72 This EAA view of the Leo triplet (upside down from the sketch at top) shows approximately the kind of detail that can only be seen at the eyepiece of a 25" to 30" scope! Dark lanes bisecting NGC 3628 (the "Hamburger" galaxy) and M65 are faintly visible; the barred nature of M66 is clearly visible. North at 12 o'clock, East at 9 o'clock. |
